The report also revealed the top 10 biggest gaming corporations on the face of the Earth in 2021. Let's check them out!

#1 - Sony

Taking the first place is the Japanese giant. Sony maintained its number one spot with over 25 billion USD in revenue. The company released its fifth version of the popular gaming console, the PlayStation 5, selling more than 6 million units in March alone.

Game developer and publisher Epic Games has just filed a lawsuit against Apple and Google over famous game Fortnite’s removal out of App Store and Play Store. In the past, Epic Games launched a direct payment in its game in a bid to avoid the payment via App Store and Play Store.

In the lawsuit, the company accused Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store of constituting a monopoly. Payment restrictions of these app stores haven’t allowed other apps to join a fair competition. Accordingly, Epic Games said that they wanted to claim fairness and end up the monopoly of both Apple and Google. It doesn’t intend to require cash compensation or any kind of beneficial policy for itself. Instead, the company hopes to look for a helpful measure to help both app developers and users.

Epic Games alleges that Apple has had a monopoly in the iOS ecosystem and App Store, and just allows users and developers to use its payment method. And therefore, this Big Tech technology company can earn a 30% App Store commission from in-app purchases.

Speaking of Google, the tech giant allows developers to bring apps to Android more freely than Apple does for its OS. Even this company lets third-party app stores operate, for example, Epic Games App. They also sideload apps via direct links and an app store isn’t involved. That’s what Apple never accepts.

However, the similarity between Google and Apple is that a 30% commission of all purchases in apps and games. Also, Google just accepts the only payment method.

According to Epic Games, Google promises to form a platform with the fair competition but it has used its payment policies to create barriers against other apps. In the past, Fortnite could be installed on Android devices via direct links and since April 2020, the hit game has officially been available on Play Store.

In December 2018, Epic has provided dozens of games for free when its Games Store officially came to the public eye. And in January this year, this company said that it would keep giving away many other games for free until the year 2020 ends.

COVID-19 fear strikes down yet another major esports tournament. The biggest esports event in the world, the Fortnite World Cup 2020, is officially canceled. The announcement was made with Epic Games citing the usual pandemic concerns and organizing difficulties - especially when their employees have to work from home.

The announcement was published on their official Fortnite Twitter account. Furthermore, all other Fortnite tournaments for the rest of the year would be held online. The biggest level would be regional - as there would be connection problems otherwise. The company further stated that they are not sure when international or regional LAN events would be back, but they hope that it would be possible to host the next Fortnite World Cup for 2021.

Last year's Fortnite World Cup was the biggest esports event, with a total prize pool of 40 million dollars. This includes a 3 million dollar prize for Bugha, the 16-years-old solo tournament champion. The event pulled in over 2 million concurrent viewers.

Other Fortnite tournaments such as the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) will continue as normal, along with the smaller competitive matches "Cash Cups" in order to keep the pro-scene alive. Epic has done pretty well so far in organizing online events - its in-game Travis Scott concerts pulled an outstanding 12.3 million concurrent fans. Epic Games Store has always been behind its biggest competitor - Steam for its lack of features and instability. And now, it seems that there is a bug that allows you to have access to its game even when you haven't purchased it.

This bug has been found by CCN, and was proven to be applicable to many famous games, including Borderlands 3! If you haven't heard about the game yet, you can see the trailer of the newest title in the loot-shooter franchise below:

You can share your copy with your friends!

This is not the first time that this concept appeared. Instead, many gamers have recognized that you can play some games on Steam by logging in your friend's account that has the games, launching it and then go offline. However, this method is quite excessive, and it only applies to some offline games.

But the case is much easier with this Epic Games Store's bug. Maybe I shouldn't call it a bug since it is Epic's decision to omit DRM from some of their products, but this one certainly works against them, so it should not be a feature either.

Explaining this bug, it's basically the same as the method above. To be more specific, you can log in to your friend's account, download the games you want to your PC and then log out. While it's very normal for every launcher/storefronts, the special case with Epic Games Store is that you are still able to play it afterward. In fact, you can even log in to your account, and still be able to play the game via the launcher!

Yup, you have read them correctly. It's basically sharing a physical copy with everyone without requiring to pay any extra amount of money. It's much easier to exploit since you won't have to go offline. Even worse for the game developer/publisher, as this works on many of their famous 'exclusive' games, including Borderlands 3.

Epic still doesn't fix it yet!

Now, this situation is only viable mainly due to the lack of DRM in Epic's games, which might confuse their servers and make it mistake the purchase status of accounts. The case of Borderlands 3 is quite special, as it actually has Denuvo anti-tampering technique applied. However, it seems that this DRM technique doesn't seal the copy into the buyer's account.

This 'bug' has been reported to Epic Games, but they still haven't released any response or patch to fix this problem. The longer they left this crack open, there will be more players to take benefits of it and trying their best 'exclusive' games that Epic has spent a lot of money for.

We're quite sure that Epic will fix this problem sooner or later, but will they be able to stop this case from happening again? If they won't deploy some new mechanics such as terminating the keys that are used to purchase the games for certain accounts, Epic Games will be the one facing the most devastating consequences.

ReadySet Heroes is a fast-paced multiplayer dungeon crawler game. About Moonlighter, this title (released on May 29th, 2018) is an action RPG indie game telling the story of Will, a shopkeeper with an adventurous spirit. Gamers of this title will follow the main character in his quests to explore dark dungeons.

Rune fans are now getting excited by the upcoming title in the franchise. The sequel was originally named as Rune: Ragnarok, but developer Human Head Studios decided to change its name to Rune II later. There is no more "Ragnarok" in the official title, but according to the new trailer, Rune II still takes place in a formidable Norse universe where gods, monsters, and the remaining of humanity fight for their own lives.

Into the game, players will play as the Midgard’s savior. The gods have chosen you to fulfill destiny, which means you now possess their blessings and powerful abilities. You will embark on a journey to end Ragnarok by stopping Loki from ruining Midgard as he puts the world in a constant state of chaos.

Many threats and dangerous creatures are waiting for you throughout your path. Alone or side by side with friends, you will face armies of Loki's followers while collecting unique resources, seeking for valuable artifacts to weaken the Realm Gate where Loki hides and craft the strongest weapons that Nine Realms have ever seen.

The new trailer, Loki’s Ages of Ragnarok, tells us a lot about Rune II gameplay. From a narrative of a man who seems to be an angry Viking, we've known one thing: things are getting worse after the world saw lots of death. However, the chaos only makes fierce Vikings more powerful.

The combat system was also partly revealed in the trailer. We can see frost giants and dragons, which Norse mythology fans may feel familiar with. A number of outfits and armors was also teased in the video, and they are obviously inspired by the Viking style.

It seems that Rune II will be an Apocalypse-themed experience that RPG fans don't want to miss. The game will hit PC platform later this summer as an exclusive on the Epic Games Store.

Twin Mirror is an adventure game by the developer Dontnod Entertainment and the publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment. According to previous plans, it should come out this year for all major platforms like Xbox One, PS4, and Microsoft Windows.

Twin Mirror Overview

In the game, players will control the investigative journalist Sam in his hometown, Basswood, West Virginia. As an adventure title, Sam has options to choose from, and depending on his investigation; the game can generate different endings to unlock.

While playing, players discover clues by switching between reality and the "Mind Palace" inside Sam. The Double is Sam's inner voice, which can either help or harm his investigation.

However, Bandai Namco and Dontnod Entertainment have recently delayed its release to 2020.

An exclusive Epic Games deal

At the same time, Dontnod Entertainment has made a deal with Epic Games for an exclusive partnership of its PC version’ distribution. According to the contract, Twin Mirror should arrive exclusively to Epic Games Store and last 12 months.

Oskar Guilbert, the chairman, and CEO of Dontnod Entertainment did talk about their cooperation with Epic Games in a press release. Thanks to such deal and the company’ development strategy, Dontnod Entertainment is now holding the additional key asset.

According to Oskar, it is a great delight to work with Epic Games and offer Twin Mirror to the community. This cooperation, alongside the support from Shibuya Productions, really enhances the potential of Twin Mirror.

For the CEO, this strategic deal shows the possibility of leveraging new market trends in their favor. He sees an ongoing transformation in the gaming industry and believes companies like Dontnod Entertainment is having a major competitive edge.

The game is coming soon to Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Dota Auto Chess is an incredibly successful mod of Dota 2, a MOBA game developed by Valve. People usually make comparisons between this mod and another title by Valve named Artifact, and the winner is always Auto Chess. It's even described as "the joyful deck-based Dota 2 game that Artifact isn't".

In fact, the mod is so popular that Valve itself decided to make a version for Steam. But in a recent announcement, Valve has revealed that there is no partnership with Drodo Studios, the original creator of Auto Chess, involved in its brand-new version.

"We had great conversations, but we both came to the conclusion that Valve and Drodo could not work directly with each other for a variety of reasons. We ended up agreeing that we’ll each build our own stand-alone version of the game, and support each other to the fullest," said Valve.

However, Auto Chess' fans have found that announcement understandable. In a segment by PC Gaming Show sponsor Epic Games, Drodo Studios officially stated that they are working on a new Auto Chess exclusively for the Epic Games Store. The game will be given a simple name - Auto Chess (no more "Dota") and is scheduled to come to mobile platforms as well. Both new versions of Auto Chess are currently under development by Drodo.

It sounds like we will be witnessing another store war soon enough, when Valve finished working on a Steam-based version of Dota Auto Chess (which might be named Dota Underworlds, according to recent rumors) and another version built by Drodo Studio, which will be published on Epic Games Store.

Epic Games would ban users if they bought too many games to fast

Epic Games have hosted their own summer sale called "Epic Mega Sale" to compete with its rival - Steam. The sale featured a lot of juicy cuts for various titles, so it attracted a lot of players who want to play their long-awaited games for a reasonable cost.

However, they will not tolerance users fraudulently taking advantages of their sales.

Patrick Boivin – a Twitch streamer was not the first one to encounter the system’s ban, and potentially not the one that wants to commit excessive fraud, but he’s the one that provides some information about the case.

Recently, Patrick has posted a post on his Twitter, announcing that his account was banned from making any further purchase. In the statement, he claimed that he has just bought five games during the sale, and ultimately, that was enough for him to be blocked from making any further purchase.

It was due to the solution from Epic to stop people from fraud. It will judge users’ purchasing action including the amount of payment they’ve made, and the time between every purchase to assess that whether the player is trying to take fraudulent advantages from their sale or not.

The system is quite essential during the sale. However, the estimation process might not have been working as they expected, leading to some mistakenly banned accounts.

Nick Chester – senior PR for Epic has explained about the fraud prevention system:

“This was a result of our aggressive fraud rules,” and that “If players run into this issue, they should contact player support so we can investigate.”

About Epic Games' mega sale

The “Epic Mega Sale” event was a marketing campaign from a newcomer to improve the brand’s awareness. And since it is ‘marketing,’ Epic will not make any financial profit from the sale-off, at least for now.

However, the costs won’t be the problem for Epic, since it has gained a lot of profit from its famous title Fortnite Battle Royale. Additionally, after the events, people will be aware of another digital storefront apart from the infamous Steam.

Nonetheless, the sale has faced some significant issues, including some developers pulling their game from the store after their games’ prices were altered, such as Borderland 3.
