More HP gives breathing room for players, allowing them to heal up.

2. Use a Shield

Shields in Elden Ring are not as powerful as in previous Souls games, but they are still good for new/casual players. They give the ability to block a portion of the damage in exchange for Stamina, which is useful against a lot of attacks.

The size of the shield determines how much damage you can block before your guard is broken.

3. Explore the map and level up

One of the secret to beat Souls game is to grind levels. A bit more points in Vigor and your damage stat of choice could increase the effectiveness of your character massively.

Unlike other Souls game where you have to beat the boss to progress, in Elden Ring, it is possible to just ignore the boss and explore other areas. Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears are two of the incredibly helpful things you can find hidden around Elden Ring's open world, both of which increase the effectiveness of your healing flask. New weapons, armors, Spirit Ash... etc are also super helpful.

4. Summon other players

If you are stuck on a boss or a hard area, summoning other players to help might be a great idea. 2 or more players will draw the aggro of the boss, making the fight much easier. Some skilled players can even solo the boss for you.

Take note that real players will increase the HP of the boss, and if they die early, the fight would actually get harder.

5. Make use of Spirit Summons

Players can use Spirit Ash to summon NPC followers in certain places in the world of Elden Ring. As Souls games are designed around solo adventure, having another target to draw aggro makes the fight much easier. You can even summon a copy of yourself with the Mimic Tear.

Spirit Summons are just as good as actual players summon, as it does not increase the HP of the bosses.

6. Try a Magic build

Magic or ranged builds are often looked down in Souls games, as these builds deal damage from afar instead of going up close and personal. Ranged/Magic builds are pretty good in Elden Ring - they allow players to cheese a lot of fights and synergize really well with spirit summons.

To deal with a hard boss, just get some summons to tank for you and spam your spells from afar.

7. Swap armor based on situation

No set is necessarily better than another, but one thing that is certain is that some armor sets will absorb more damage of a specific type, like the super high physical damage-absorption Bull Goat Armor.

Therefore, switching armor based on the enemies you face is crucial. If you are heading into an area with monsters dealing fire damage, equip the best fire resistance armor you have.

8. Use Ashes of War

Ashes of War enrich Elden Ring's combat greatly by adding new effects to your weapon attacks. Some of these are simple, like a damage buff or a sweeping slash attack, but some are specialized like the Giant's Hunt that allows you to lunge forward with a high damage poke.

By experimenting, players can figure out the best combos to make their Elden Ring journey more comfortable.

9. Try to get at least Medium equip load

This is one of the more common piece of knowledge amongst Souls players: the heavier your equipment, the slower your dodge roll. This equip load system prevents players from just wearing the best armor they have all the time, as these are often the heaviest.

Staying under 70 percent equip load is recommended to retain the normal roll state, but going under 30 percent will give you even more effective rolls. Skilled players might even wear nothing as they just don't plan on getting hit.

The story had likable characters and not one really stood out to me as a bad character. The graphics are amazing and as expected.

However, the game is pretty much just an expansion of the original Spider-Man and is very short.

5. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Everything in the game that's an adaptation of the original FF7 I love. It gave me major nostalgia vibes to walk through gorgeously rendered versions of FF7's environments. The combat is much more engaging - no more watching a tv show on the side while I button-mash another random encounter.

Many of the big story moments still hit and I found even more to love in the characters based on their performances going beyond text boxes and blocky animations. Even the music is just top-notch. The OST will be a mainstay in my playlist for years. It feels like I'm seeing the old game with fresh eyes and remembering why it made such an impact.

Atomic Heart is what you'd call a AA game - unlike a modern AAA game that tries to incorporate tons of elements into a single title, Atomic Heart maintains a narrower focus that allows it to refine its main mechanics. Some aspects are clunkier than others, but the game generally succeeds in what it sets out to accomplish.

This is still a very spooky, very tense Resident Evil that maintains an excellent balance between frantic combat encounters and quieter moments of exploration, set in often visually stunning environments that are excellently designed and featuring some of the best and most charismatic antagonists I have seen in any media in a while.

10. Elden Ring

The open world is stunning and incredibly diverse in its variety of visuals when it comes to areas and their themes. Not to mention that the map is absolutely huge. The more you traverse the world from zone to zone you can't help but be awed by something new, there's just always something new: a new piece of art, new architecture, a new monster.

The monster diversity is one thing, even tho it is very important but what stuns me the most is really the variety in the details of the world itself. You can't help but simply stop at times staring at an entrance to the castle or a statue beside a church or at the edge of a mountain.

FromSoftware has created a brand new genre by itself, with the success of Dark Souls. Since then, many companies have tried to emulate the formula, to various degrees of success. However, nothing can beat the Souls sequels and spinoff created by FromSoft themselves.

In this article, Gurugamer is going to showcase a list of all Souls Games on PC and Console, Ranked.

1. Elden Ring

Elden Ring is basically Dark Souls 4, or Dark Souls but now you can sneak, jump, and ride a steed around the open world areas. You start by creating a character and choosing a class to determine your starting gear and stats (e.g. Astrologer to be a spellcasting sorcerer, or Samurai to be a katana-weilding DEX melee build). You progress through the game by traveling around the map and finding items/gear to upgrade your equipment setup and defeating enemies to gain 'runes" that you can spend to level up or buy items from shops.

'Sites of grace' are the bonfire equivalents in Elden Ring, and most of the time they visually display a path of light that indicate the direction you need to go to progress the main story through the locations of major bosses. There are plenty of these grace sites littered everywhere in the open world and within dungeons so it is easy to fast travel to where you want to go immediately.

Elden Ring is an open-world game and there are various mini-dungeons/secrets hidden away in every corner of the map. It is to your advantage to seek out these locations to find rare materials and unique weaponry that may or may not change your play style altogether. The open world feels like there is always something waiting for you to discover, such as powerful enemies that drop unique weapon arts (ashes of war) or an NPC standing around waiting to offer you a quest. With the introduction of a day/night cycle, there are even some bosses that only spawn at nighttime in specific locations waiting to ambush you but offer unique drops as well.

Elden Ring, while imperfect, is the best implementation of an open-world action RPG that I've ever played. It feels like the culmination of every iteration of FromSoft's 'Souls' games into one truly amazing experience filled with intrigue, struggle, and eventual triumph.

2. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

In Sekiro, you play a shinobi, a ninja, whose young master was kidnapped. The young master has a special heritage, that's why he matters so much to your enemy. To rescue him, you have to sneak and fight your way through historical Japan. Across your journey, you visit very different parts of the country. On the whole, the game is a mix of stealth and combat. That doesn't sound all that interesting at first, and yet Sekiro has, hands down, the best game design I have ever seen in a video game.

In many locations, it is up to the player whether to simply sneak past an enemy, sneak past an enemy, and then attack the enemy from behind, or seek direct combat. If you choose to play dirty and attack your enemies from behind, it not only gives you an advantage in combat, but it also fits nicely with the shinobi theme. If you choose direct combat, which is sometimes inevitable, the game thrives on the fact that you have to break through your opponents' cover in order to hit them with a death blow. This in turn leads to some really nice "finish" animations.

Defeating opponents is often a painful learning process because you have to learn how they move and when it is best to parry. Yet you are more engaged than frustrated in the process. If you die, there is the option to be revived. However, you lose half of your money and half of your experience points.

The level design is awesome because you can move horizontally and vertically, i.e. you can swing from rock to rock or climb trees with the help of your grabbling hook.

3. Dark Souls III

Personally, Dark Souls 3 has the best story and second best level design in the series after the original one. The game really doubles down on weapon and armor variety that leaves you satisfied. Anyone can find a playstyle that suits them better. The compact level design pushes players into various events in each area that needs you to carefully dissect otherwise seemingly impossible challenges.

The gameplay revolves around more dodging and favors an offensive playstyle as enemies are much more aggressive and fast compared to previous titles. The base game is well-crafted and executed but I can't say the same for the DLCs. DLCs feel like they don't want you to engage in combat and just run through everything. The game encourages you to react strategically and use your brain but DLC pushes you so much that after dying in some areas, you don't want to kill those 40 enemies that take 15 mins to go through again. They clearly went overboard here. It was fun for me to kill them all in the first run and then I sprinted past them. So be wary about this.

But the good part about the DLC is that the bosses are particularly well done and does the game favor greatly. Extremely hard bosses that require strict management and knowledge of the game's mechanics that make you fully use everything to get past. Almost every major encounter in the DLCs is memorable, so in the end, the downsides are forgivable.

Possibly the best PVP mechanics of the series here. Multiple factions attacking and defending each other, it's total chaos that always ends up as an exhilarating experience through and through. Absolutely brilliant soundtrack as icing on the cake. Definitely recommended and a must-play of the souls genre.

4. Bloodborne

The aesthetic is what mainly defines Bloodborne as its own separate thing within the Souls series. You don't get to see such beautiful, detailed and immersive victorian-fantasy worlds like Yharnam every day. Add From Software's expertly crafted passive storytelling and a bit of Lovecraftian inspiration, and you have yourself a game universe that is just a delight to get soaked in. It is impressive how Bloodborne, being a single game, has a lore that is just as compelling as the entire Dark Souls series as a whole.

In the gameplay department, Bloodborne is a faster-paced version of Dark Souls, with less emphasis on defending and more on being aggressive. Parrying was made easier than ever thanks to the inclusion of guns, and this is one of the things I love the most about Bloodborne. It's going to be hard to go back to the other Souls games and not be able to parry anything. However, this doesn't make the game any easier. Bloodborne is just as difficult as any other Souls game. Another great thing about combat is being able to regain health if you hit an enemy immediately after taking damage, which creates this very clever risk-reward dynamic at all times.

The amount of art and creativity that went into every aspect of Bloodborne's design is both admirable and delightful. Bloodborne won't win any awards on the technical aspect, but the levels still look fantastic, they have a lot of detail everywhere. I was initially worried that all of the game's areas would look too similar given the victorian setting, but fortunately, this isn't a problem. The soundtrack is also good, probably my favorite in the Souls series, along with Dark Souls 3.

5. Dark Souls

Dark Souls is easily one of the best ARPGs ever created in the last 20 years. A beautiful, varied and interconnected world, a good sense of risk and reward, well-designed levels, and boss fights. It feels very long and you will probably want to take a break for a while, but at the same time you'll want more and you'll just want to go ahead and try to kill the bad guy that made you rage over and over again. Some argue that the second half of the game suffers from a lack of time and a kind of rushed feeling to areas like Lost Izalith and The Tomb of the Giants.

For a true Dark Souls experience, you are gonna want to pick a build early. The starting classes help, giving you more points in a certain category, like Strength, Dexterity, or Vitality depending on your starting class. You will want to use levels from souls to help form your build.

The real part of Dark Souls is the Bosses. They are what the game is known for, and the game would be wildly different without them. Without spoiling too much, some of the bosses in this game have become my all-time favorites. 3 of the 4 DLC bosses and the boss at the end of Anor Londo are the true contenders.

6. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

Compared to Dark Souls 1, this game is much more consistent in its quality, with lower highs but higher lows. There's nothing in DS2 that's awful on the level of Lost Izalith, but there's also nothing nearly as good as the Painted World outside of the DLC. However, with the DLC included for free in the SotFS edition, the game is elevated to much greater heights. Sinh, Fume Knight, and Ivory King are among the best bosses in all of Dark Souls, better than almost every fight from DS1 and a good chunk of the DS3 boss pool as well. They also contextualize the story of the game in a way that makes the game far more personal -- it's much easier to be invested in the world of DS2 compared to DS1 and 3 where the stories feel like a backdrop rather than motivation.

Combat is Dark Souls combat, I don't feel I need to explain much more than that. It lends itself more to larger groups of enemies, and magic is greatly improved, but it's still Dark Souls, and it's just as good as any other Dark Souls game -- faster than DS1 as your attack options are better, but slower than DS3 because multiple enemy encounters require patience and picking a good time to attack -- the Dual Pursuers in NG+ play more like Ornstein and Smough than as a generic combat encounter. PvP is also great, but my experience is too limited to comment on it in depth here.

The game is, unfortunately, ugly -- much less creative enemy designs than DS1 and 3, with most of the new enemies being fairly standard humanoid enemies or bland looking 'fantasy monster' -- Ogres, those weird mushroom things, and the long-armed green enemies in No Man's Wharf are all forgettable enemy designs, a far cry from the unique appearance of the basilisks, the unnatural bodies of the mimics, and the horrifying bug/human hybrids in the depths of Blighttown. Boss design suffers from a similar lack of quality -- there are no fights as visually striking as Sif, Gaping Dragon, or Gravelord Nito. The most creative boss design is the Executioner's Chariot, an optional boss that culminates in a fight against a pretty generic horse enemy with dodgy hitboxes.

7. Demon's Souls

Demon's Souls is the prototype for Dark Souls, with the familiar Souls combat (light/heavy attack, block, dodge...etc). Similar to Dark Souls, every action has a heavy, realistic feel to it, so your sword swings and shield blocks will have lifelike responses. These groundbreaking controls are complemented by beautiful visuals, stunning level design and extremely creative boss battles. For instance, one of the early levels will have you running through a castle timing your runs with the intervals of a dragon swooping down and breathing fire over your path. Scenes like this are so grandiose and epic in scale and really immerse you in the fantasy genre.

The most crippling flaw of Demon's Soul is a lack of a compelling story. This game is truly gameplay oriented, meaning you will be going from level to level without really feeling like you've accomplished much for any characters or made a significant progression throughout a long winding engaging story, unlike games like Dragon Age or Elder Scrolls. But Demon's Soul is a game you definitely need to experience to fall in love with. It is a game of absolutely monumental scale and you really deserve to see it for yourself.

The boss battles are also not that hard - they are very "primitive" and much easier than Dark Souls and if you have played DS1, you should have no problem speedrunning this one.

On the body of the Walking Mausoleum, you will see white rocks with skeleton faces. You need to hit these rocks to break them. Once you have broken enough of these white rocks, the Walking Mausoleum will stop moving and start sitting down.

While the Walking Mausoleum will not try to attack you, you still need to be careful to not get under its feet. Also, once you see the Walking Mausoleum starts to collapse, try to get out as quickly as possible if you are under it.

1. It is harder to get stuck

In earlier Souls games, it is pretty easy to get stuck on certain areas or bosses because of their high difficulty. For example, Dark Souls 1 has the Blighttown area which is a pitch dark sewer that is filled with dangerous ranged enemies that shot deadly poison at you. This is the first for a series of "swamp areas" that has been reappearing in all Dark Souls games to this day. Players can also get stuck on Ornstein & Smough, which is a 2 vs 1 boss unlike the usual 1 vs 1 battle.

Elden Ring, on the other hand, is an open-world game. Players can do whatever they want - if they run into a hard foe, it is possible to just disengage and explore in another direction.

2. Rewarding exploration

Similar to previous souls games or other RPGs in general, exploration in Elden Ring is very rewarding. Furthermore, the game gives you free reins to explore - there are no invisible walls or waist-high barriers. As long as players can dodge the various attacks and traps from enemies, they can go anywhere they want.

This is an excellent way to gather useful items such as the Golden Seeds, which increase the number of times players can heal. This makes hard fights more bearable.

3. No more "boss-rushing" runs

One of the worst design choices in previous dark souls games is the placement of save points (bonfires), as sometimes they are just too far from the bosses. Because of this, dying to a boss usually mean that you have to travel back to the boss area again... and deal with all the other enemies on the route. By the time you get back to the boss, you might have lost some of your healing potions.

In Elden Ring, most of the save sites and checkpoints are right before a boss encounter. You can try over and over again almost immediately without having to do the tedious "boss rushing".

4. Variety of builds

Unlike the other modern Souls spinoffs such as Sekiro or Bloodborne, Elden Ring allows you to use a huge variety of weapons, both melee and ranged. Players can choose to be a sorcerer, an archer, a tank-like knight, or anything in between. This makes the game easier as you can attack the enemy from afar or tank more hits.

In Bloodborne players are forced into aggressive builds that require fast reaction to pull off successfully.

5. Spirit summons

While players can summon friendly spirits to help them out in boss fights/normal exploration in Dark Souls, the system is fairly clunky. These spirits only appear at specific spots and disappear once the boss is defeated.

You can find the Greatsword in a carriage north-west to the Caelem Ruins Site of Grace. Here is how you can reach the location:

• Start from Saintbridge and just keep following the road.
• You need to keep traveling until you reach Caelid, where the sky turns red and the environment tone shifts greatly.
• Keep following the main path and you will find a camp with a big wooden carriage with some huge dogs guarding it.

• These monsters are very strong but you don't have to fight them. Just sneak to the back of the carriage, where there is a chest that contains the Greatsword.

The Greatsword is a strong weapon that requires 31 Strength to wield. Due to its gigantic size, the weapon has high damage and a great AOE at the cost of mobility. If you are planning to take the Strenght route or just simply a huge Berserk fan then this weapon can be a great fit for you.

After months, perhaps years of eager waiting, action RPG fans finally have the first look into Elden Ring. The long-awaited game, a result of collaboration between FromSoftware studio and writer George R.R. Martin, has finally come out of hiding.

Elden Ring Drops First Gameplay Trailer

Just as we thought things couldn't get any spicier at the Summer Game Fest Kickoff Live event, it did just that! We had a little of a surprise towards the end of the event, where Bandai Namco releases the first look of its upcoming AAA game, Elden Ring.

The first gameplay revelation from the elusive title was from E3 2019. It showed quite a handful of PvE magic fights and swordplay while traversing through fantastical environments on horseback. And in this time, we seem to be having a game that would gladly please fans of Bloodborne and Dark Souls.

Bandai Namco's signature action RPG gameplay appears to be taking a new route with Elden Ring. It's now nestled into deep, entrancing game design.

Elden Ring To Release On January 21st, 2022

It was a long wait for the trailer we had today. More than two years have passed but the trailer makes it all worthwhile. We're just months away from the official release date. And we're surely going to hear more from FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco as the day approaches.

The official release date for Elden Ring will be January 21, 2022. Players can access the title on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and last-gen consoles. Publisher Bandai Namco says the Xbox version of the game will support Smart Delivery. Also, players who purchase the PS4 version of the game will get a free upgrade to the PS5 version.

Fans of the Dark Souls creator From Software have probably noticed the lack of new information about the company's next title, Elden Ring, ever since its announcement trailer reveal. This has led to a hunger for new info, and sometimes even unreliable sources would be taken seriously. This anonymous leak details Elden Ring's open-world structure and its various regions called "Kingdoms", along with the Character Creation system.

The biggest reveal amongst this is that the game would feature 8 unique "Kingdom" sections that are huge and sprawling bigger than any levels in Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, or Bloodborne. Each kingdom would have its own bosses roster, including multi-phase final bosses. This trend of adding more phases to bosses have been pretty prevalent in soulborne games since Bloodborne. This makes all fights tedious ordeals that require you to do without any mistakes.

Separate the kingdoms would be a hub section that's named the Field. This is another common location in all soulborne games - however, in Elden Ring, the area is going to be huge, with explorable sections, puzzles, side-bosses, secrets, and more. You would be able to ride a mount in the hub due to its expanded size.

Character creation would return after its absence in Sekiro - players would be able to custom their characters and choose a class. Afterward, they would be sorted to different origin kingdoms based on their choices. Progression in-game is similar to Dark Souls - players would get a resource from enemies then come back to level in the hub. The difference here is that beside stats, they would have a talent tree that would be unlocked gradually after defeating bosses.

FromSoftware has been on a roll ever since their first hit game, Demon’s Souls, roll out in 2009. After Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice's massive victory in The Game Awards this year, fans are now more hyped than ever for whatever the company is going to release next. Another reason for this hype is the nature of their next work: it is a collaboration with the famous author of the Games of Thrones series, George R.R. Martin. The game is going to be called Elden Ring – and its release month might have just been leaked.

FromSoftware has just mistakenly revealed a New Year card on its website, which claims that Elden Ring would be released in Jun 2020. While this might be just either a placeholder or error, the possibility is low, as the thing is posted on the company’s own site. Furthermore, this also corroborates a previous leak from Target, a retail chain that often distributes video games, which means the June release window even more likely to be true.

The leak back in Sept this year was that Elden Ring would be released on Tuesday, Jun 30. While this date might just be a placeholder, the fact that its Tuesday is rather suspicious, with most video games release on either Tuesday or Friday.

A formal announcement for the title would probably come soon, as the game would be revealed alongside the next Xbox in an event this summer. While Elden Ring is a current-gen title, it is likely that Microsoft is going to use it to showcase the power of their new console.

Fans who are waiting for the game should not be too hyped, as no gameplay or anything related to the in-game assets has been shown. Because of that, it is pretty difficult to gauge its state of development. Overall, a June release date for the game is rather optimistic.

In Microsoft's press conference at E3 2019, Elden Ring has been announced along with its first cinematic trailer. Like other titles that were molded by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the trailer looks mysterious and obscure, but it's enjoyable to the very last moment.

Maybe it's a bit difficult for people to understand when there are lots of separate details showed up: some ghastly characters, the mysterious broken ring, the burning sky, the scaring arms. This cinematic footage has suggested Elden Ring will be a promising fantasy game, even when there has been no storyline revealed.

Fans have all the right to expect more sturdy storytelling than the previous Souls titles due to the engagement of George R. R. Martin. Of course, that doesn't mean FromSoftware's narrative had any problem. It's just the new stuff they are trying to do that sounds very promising to the fans. Martin is an amazing writer and his collab with Miyazaki and FromSoftware's team will much likely to result in an outstanding game title.

Generally speaking, Microsoft's press conference at E3 2019 is good. They revealed some interesting news, but Elden Ring and Keanu Reeves have obviously stolen the show. The announcement for Xbox Scarlett is acceptable, and for some reasons, the trailer for Halo was kind of boring. That must be a weird experience for those who attended the press personally.
