ID Software’s Doom Reboot back in 2016 was an excellent revival of the original shooter formula that made the franchise famous. The gameplay was intense and fast-paced, with you running around while shooting and executing huge monsters, under a scorching metal soundtrack. While Doom 2016 brought the original game back to life, Doom Eternal decided to up the ante and bring something new to the table: you would still be a monster-shredding badass, but now you would have to be smart about it.

While the story is nothing special compared to the previous games, it is still serviceable. The events of the game happen 2 years after the previous Doom Game, with the Doom Slayer coming back to stop the three Hell priests from creating a ritual to consume mankind. In his quest, Doom Slayer's origins story is revealed gradually - with the guy eventually confronting his creators and stop them on their tracks.

Kicking up the difficulty

In Doom Eternal, you would have to cycle through every tool at your disposal to sustain and progress. Unlike previous games in the franchise, health, ammo, and armor pickups are rare in Eternal – and the most reliable way for you to acquire them is not exploring but killing and executing monsters in different ways. To get a health refill, you have to tear a monster apart with a glory kill after staggering them. For armor, a flamethrower is required… and finally, if you need ammo, the chainsaw would be your best bet.

Each enemy type would also have their own particular strengths, weaknesses and weak points – you have to rampage in moderation while trying to figure out the weak spots of the tougher mobs. Once you figured out how to chain everything together, Doom Eternal’s combat would be similar to dancing – with you coming inside the battlefield, assessing the situation, picking your priority targets and take them out based on whatever resources you need to gain.

An exciting battlefield with intricate level design

Besides the enemies, you have to make use of the environment to boost your mobility. Overall, most big battles would take place in a huge multi-leveled arena, dotted with jump pads and monkey bars to further boost your movement – with the Doom Slayer already has access to abilities like double jump or horizontal dash. Mobility is the name of this game – and standing still behind covers would get you nowhere in Doom; a close and personal fight is a must.

Navigating the environments can be a pain sometimes, however, they are actually much more forgiving than the usual games: Falling down a cliff would penalize you with just a small reduction in HP instead of instant death.

New multiplayer mode

The new Battlemode is very different from the usual Deathmatch in Doom 2016. This mode is a 2 vs 1 battle, with 2 players working together as demons against 1 Doom Slayer. This mode is an interesting take on Doom Eternal’s combat – while the Demons are much weaker, they have the advantage in number: if you focus down on one person, the other would be stabbing you behind your back. The demon players would have the ability to summon lesser mobs and various supportive skills such as traps, disable heal, disable loot…

Overall, it would take a while for players to get the hang of the game – as it is somewhat harder than the 2016 version. Mastering the gameplay is very rewarding, of course. Below are our 10 tips for starting out in Doom Eternal.

1 – Constantly moving

As mentioned before, this is very important in Doom Eternal – only by moving around constantly or even stay airborne could you keep the mob from focusing all their attention on the same target.

2 – Abuse the Flame belch

Enemies that are on fire would spit up green armor shards over time. The shard spawned would stay there for a while, so it is best to just set everything on fire then run around to do your own thing – when you came back, there would be quite an amount of armor drops ready to be picked up.

3 – Farm up resources using the zombies

You rarely come out of a fight with all 3 resources intact. To fill them up, you should use the usual flaming/chainsaw/glory kill combo on those zombie piles lying around – it is vital to enter a fight with as many resources as possible.

4 – Prioritize Ammo upgrades when using Sentinel Crystals

Health and armor are pretty much the same things – if you are carefully moving around, it is not hard to keep both stats above the danger threshold. Ammo is a different matter – as they can only be regained by using the chainsaw with a limited fuel reserve.

5 – Counter the marauders with the Super Shotgun

Marauders are actually designed to counter the usual arena shooter tropes – they control the fight, not you. In fact, you would lose even more control if you can’t prevent their green attack on time. The Super Shotgun is the most useful here, as its wide pellet spray would have an easier time to hit the marauder’s weak point than the rest of your arsenal.

6 – Read the Codex to find out more about demon weaknesses

The information section “Codex” is actually filled with useful information that can make your life easier. It might take quite a while for you to realize those details on your own.

7 – Don’t bother doing everything on your first try

The game is filled to the brim with secrets, challenges, and collectibles, more often than not lying in the dark corners of every level – however, it is better to save time and just rush through the game normally. After you have beaten Doom Eternal for the first time, you would get to replay the game using cheat to clean up all the collectibles and secrets on the map. Sentinel Gates are exceptions, however. These are extremely hard arenas that would unlock a superweapon upon complete. You would have to pucker up for this one.

8 – Spend your Sentinel Batteries

These items can be spent on skins and upgrades in your base, the “Fortress of Doom”.

9 – Tinker with the UI to get the options you like most

You can change the colors of the UI with an array of presets and transparency options – most of them are really nice and would spice up your game even further.

10 – You can enable the sound effects and weapon perspective of the original Doom

The gaming industry is getting more and more updated, with various new technology getting constantly applied to games. Nowadays, even consoles are pushing past 30 - 60 FPS, bringing gamers a much more enjoyable gaming experience.

PC users, however, demand even more than that with a lot of people fervently customize their rigs to the maximum limit. Id Software has responded to that subset of players today with some relatively unbelievable news: Doom Eternal has almost no frame rate cap, with certain builds capable to get the game to 1000 frames per second. This is a new feature of the latest id Tech 7 engine - the previous id Tech 6 can only reach 250 FPS max.

Even 250 FPS seems like an absurd number - in an age where Microsoft's upcoming flagship console would be locked at 120 FPS max. However, this 1000 FPS is pretty much for the future PC hardware, as currently, they have only able to pump the game to 400 FPS using a specialized setup.

Doom Eternal is going to be one of the most anticipated titles of 2020, after the previous delay. It is going to be the follow up for Doom 2016, keeping the core gameplay while adding various new features such as platforming and wall scaling. Unlike the previous game, you would be able to interact with most objects in the environment in order to create the most fast-paced high octane experience possible.

The game would also feature a special multiplayer mode called "Battlemode" in which you would step into the shoes of the Doom Slayer or one of the two demons in a 1 vs 2 battle. This is an asymmetrical concept similar to Friday the 13th and Evolve have done before - with a lot of potential for further expansion.

Doom Eternal will be available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Stadia on March 20th, with a Switch release on a later date.

Doom Eternal has been delayed from its original release date for quite a while – and the fans are getting anxious. In order to prepare for the launch and pacify the fanbase, the developers have decided to release the first ten minutes of the game as a trailer. Doom Eternal does not waste any time in telling you the general instruction for the game: 18 seconds are all it takes. There isn’t any cutscene or anything – the game just goes straight into the combat.

The speed of the game seems to be pumped into the next gear right from the start, as Doomguy gets the Shotgun as his first weapon, along with the Sticky Grenade shot mods right afterward. The Chainsaw is also unlocked during the first ten minutes as well. Looks like the difficulty of the game is amped up pretty early, as you would face Possessed Soldiers, Imps, and Arachnotron right away. There is also a gigantic demon walking around the map as well.

Overall, the game is definitely an upgrade from the base formula of the 2016 Doom. In a recent interview, the developers have revealed 4 new game features that Eternal is going to have:

1 – “Aggressive” resource management: as there would be a lot more weapon options comparing to the previous Doom, players should spend their ammunition in a certain way so that strategically placed items would not be wasted.

2 – Wall climbing: the previous game follow the usual shooter control scheme, with modes like walk, sprint and jump – in Doom Eternal, however, you would get the option to climb on vertical surfaces.

3 – Enemy weak points: each type of enemy would have their own weakness for you to take advantage of. This is actually an aversion of the trope “shoot the enemy on the head to deal more damage” as some enemy would have their head fortified.

4 – The Doom Hub: The main character would spend time in his own hideout between mission. In this little base, you would get the chance to upgrade your skills, check out your collectibles and take a small break between fights.

DOOM (2016) is one of the most successful installments in id Software and Bethesda's long-running series, as players highly reviewed its campaign, visuals, and gameplay that have truely inherited the spirit of the classic first-person shooters DOOM (199x). And when I looked at the gameplay footage from the recent trailer of DOOM Eternal, I think it's going to be even better.

DOOM Eternal is the fifth installment in the series and the sequel of the last DOOM game of 2016. It was revealed back at E3 2018, but from that moment, gamers didn't receive much information about the new game apart from its March 2020 release date. And now, as we're getting closer to the launch, the publisher Bethesda has launched a brand new trailer showcasing its gameplay.

And it might be the best trailer of DOOM Eternal so far, as we do not only see the stylish shooting but also some monsters and weapons as well. You can see the trailer below:

A brief overview on DOOM Eternal

If in DOOM (2016), the DOOM Slayer has done his job of wiping out the unsettling horror of Hell on the futuristic Mars where people have successfully colonized, DOOM Eternal will see the unnamed hero back at the Earth again, just to find that our beloved home is now struggling with the demonic invasion.

Your task is to help the Slayer again, make his journey down to Hell and make your bullet rain to raze it to the ground. This journey will also open up the secret origins behind the DOOM Slayer, but at first, you'll have to keep him alive while fulfilling his mission of tearing and ripping.

The DOOM series has always been famous for its frantic fast-speed shooting and slashing, and DOOM Eternal will keep this great tradition. In fact, it's going to make it better, as your DOOM Slayer now has a lot of powerful weapons in his arsenal: a flamethrower stick on your shoulder along with other guns, a sharp blade on your wrist, and the trusty Double Dash as well.

With such power, you're now stronger, faster and more dangerous for the wicked entities of Hell. DOOM Eternal still keeps the first-person combats mechanics, which you will have to combine both your fast speed and your mobility to dash in the bullet lanes of your enemies while shooting them down or slash them into pieces stylishly. Slaying them will give you materials for upgrades like more health, stronger armor, and ammo if you run out of bullets.

However, apart from the enhanced visuals, new maps, and new monsters, DOOM Eternal introduces the Battlemode for the first time. According to the developer, it's basically the 2v1 multiplayer mode, where 2 people will take control of two dangerous demons. The other one will become the DOOM Slayer, and they'll head to the combats for the winner in the best-of-five series.

In detail, there are 5 demons for the players to choose from, including the Pain Elemental, Mancubus, Revenant, Marauder and Archvile. We can also see the Marauder in the trailer above. Overall, DOOM Eternal is expected to be another successful successor of the greatness of the DOOM series.

DOOM Eternal will officially launch for PC on March 21, 2020, if something doesn't go wrong as we've seen with Cyberpunk 2077. For now, players can pre-order the game on Steam, but we recommend having it come out first to avoid seeing problems like the disastrous Red Dead Redemption 2 launch.

10 – Doom (2016)

It is obvious that the first game that fans who are interested in Doom Eternal should try out first is the previous Doom remake, Doom 2016. Many fans were doubting the game when it came out, however, they were pleasantly surprised. Doom Eternal has managed to take everything noteworthy from the classic Doom game, spray on a coat of paint with 2016 standards, then set it out upon the unsuspecting gamers. It might seem to be weird when listing a platformer in a list regarding shooters, however, there is a reason for it. In Doom 2016, the most important thing is that you have to constantly kill the enemies and perform executions on them to gain health. The hard part is that you have to do it while avoiding the constant stream of attacks the demons send in your general direction. The only way to do that is to practice your timing – in Super Meat Boy, you would get to do exactly that.

After you have refined your timing skill while playing Super Meat Boy, beating all those death traps, spinning blades and smashing pillars, timing in Doom Eternal would be a cakewalk for you.

8 – Wolfenstein: The New Order

If you are going to try out Bethesda’s shooter remakes, you might as well check out the first game, which is Bethesda’s take on another classic shooter series. Wolfenstein: The New Order has breathed new life into the franchise, which is literally what Doom 2016 did to its own series. While waiting for Doom Eternal to come out, it might be a good idea to check the Wolfenstein remake out, for they both share some similarities in gameplay. The usual approach that works with Doom might not be a good idea in Wolfenstein however, as your player character is not an invincible machine of Death.

7 – Doom 3

Doom 3, while often considered to be the black sheep of the series, is not something that could be overlooked – if you are trying to get a wholesome Doom experience. This game is an old take to the classic “Alien Invasion” scenario in which you have to take on the whole demonic horde on your own. Doom 3’s gameplay is really fast-paced comparing to its previous prequels – if you enjoyed Doom 2016’s fast pace combat and is up for some retro gaming, Doom 3 could potentially be a great choice to improve your game library.

6 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)

The biggest shooter released this year on PC and console is probably the remake of Modern Warfare. Game companies seem to have run out of original idea – remaking then selling their classic titles is a surefire strategy. Unlike Doom, Call of Duty’s main focus is on multiplayer, which could potentially be harder than any single player shooter can ever be.

If you are camping for Doom: Eternal, you might as well give this game a try, as it can definitely give you a run of your money until the next call of duty hit.

5 – Halo 2

Halo 2 is pretty much a classic that you can never go wrong by playing. For years, its widely considered to be the top of the shooter genre, in both singleplayer and multiplayer. Equipped with one of the best sci-fi coop campaigns, you and your friends can still burn hours upon hours into Halo 2 without ever touching the multiplayer component. The protagonist of Doom and Halo are really similar as well, with both being super soldiers who can annihilate a legion. If “armored green guy demolishing people in the face” is your thing, Halo 2 could definitely satisfy that craving.

4 – Half-Life 2

You literally cannot speak about classic shooters without mentioning Half-Life 2. Gordon Freeman, the protagonist of Half-Life and its sequel, is also an armored badass, much like the main characters of Doom and Halo. The game is set during an alien invasion, which shares some similarities to the premise of the Doom series.

The biggest resemblance here, however, is the variety of weapons that the player can make use of in both games. You can always find new, interesting ways to destroy your enemies, either it being a wave motion beam or a gun that shoots alien hornets.

3 – Cuphead

Being a bullet hell/ projectile dodging simulator, Cuphead is actually a decent game to practice if you want to have a head start in Doom Eternal. The main thing is that you have to dodge almost everything on the screen while trying to damage your enemies. Filter through the visual mess is no joke and the same thing also happens in Doom.

2 – Prey

It is common knowledge that people flocked to Doom 2016 because of its amazing single-player campaign. The multiplayer, while being decent, was considered just a side attraction than anything else. The same thing can be said about Prey, as the single-player campaign of this game is pretty much a masterpiece in its own genre. Inspired by legendary titles like System Shock and Bioshock, Prey delivered an amazing RPG shooter horror experience, in which you have to destroy an alien threat on your own before they are able to come into contact with Earth. Clearing out this game is not a bad way to wait for Doom Eternal’s release.

1 – Doom (1993)

Another way to spend your time preparing for Eternal’s release is to either play or watch the first Doom, the 1993 version that started it all. The game, along with Quake and Wolfenstein, was pretty much the first predecessors to the modern-day shooter. They are legendary games of their time, however, you might find quite a few features being rather dated. Those YouTubers who post their playthroughs of old games are useful here, as you can binge a whole playthrough of the game in just one afternoon.

These are all the information that we have gathered about one of the flagship titles from Bethesda, Doom Eternal. It is going to be released on all consoles and PC on November 22, 2019.

Campaign playtime

It looks like Doom Eternal would be longer than its prequel, as the estimated total playtime of it is “18 to 22 hours”. This information was revealed by Id Software’s executive producer Marty Stratton.

Battle Mode

During Quakecon 2019, id Software explained how Doom Eternal's battle mode will work.

The Battle Mode of Doom Eternal is revealed during Quakecon 2019. The gameplay would be a two versus one battle, with one Demon Slayer chasing two Demons around in an arena. This mode would have a heavy focus on platforming, as the arena would be filled with portals, monkey bars, and jump pads.

There will be five demons available at launch. Each demon would have their unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Their playstyles are also varied, as some demons are focused on confronting the player directly while others are more attuned to stealth.

The demons have to work together to defeat the Doom Slayer, as a single demon can be killed easily. The Slayer would be equipped with every mod available, as he would be facing both the player demons and the computer-controlled ones.

The worst thing is that if you managed to kill one player demon, you have to get to the other as soon as possible, as the player demons will respawn after a certain amount of time have passed. Between rounds, both teams would be able to upgrade their gears and abilities.

Stadia launch?

Google is trying to enter the gaming market with its Stadia streaming services. Doom Eternal is one of the biggest titles amongst the launch lineup of Stadia.

The service is rumored to be able to stream the maximum PC gaming graphics quality to any Chrome browser, however, it has a rather steep cost.

The New Doom Slayer

This is probably the most powerful version of the Doom Slayer we have ever seen. The guy is equipped with an enhanced armor which can be retrofitted with an arsenal of deadly weapons, such as a shoulder-mounted cannon flamethrower hybrid, a built-in extendable blade, and a dash ability. In addition to the upgraded guns, Bethesda has added quite a few gun mods – the best amongst them is the Super Shotgun’s Meat Hook. With that item, you can pull yourself closer to the enemy and shoot them in the face with a shotgun.

Enemies variation

Doom Eternal will have both the classic demons and new variants of challenges. According to the trailers, the Pain Elemental, Archvile and Arachnotron would make appearances, while unique new enemies like the Doom Hunter and Corrupted Marauders would take center stage.

Invasion mode?

A dark souls style Invasion mode would allow any players to invade the campaign of another as a demon. You can even make a hunting party to invade the world of a player as a group.

Would there be a VR version or a Switch version?

As the previous Doom VR came to the HTC Vive and Playstation VR last year, the sequel would be a perfect opportunity to capitalize on everything the previous game has built up. Bethesda has already confirmed Doom Eternal for the Nintendo Switch.

A few weeks before the E3 convention happening every year, a lot of critics from many places all over the world gather in Los Angeles for an event called Judges Week. In this event, critics will have the chance to play a lot of games before they are introduced to us a few weeks later in E3 convention. After playing the games, the critics will vote for the games that are the best of the E3 show, and this is the Game Critics Awards.

The list of Game Critics Awards for E3 2019 convention this year has just been released, and the most important awards this year are handed to Final Fantasy VII Remake title by Square Enix. This game has won the highest award this year, which is the Best of Show award. This title also brought the awards for Best Console game and Best RPG for Square Enix.

Besides Final Fantasy VII Remake, DOOM Eternal is the only other title that has won more than one award. This title has earned awards for Best PC game and Best Action.

Perhaps a lot of you guys are wondering why a lot of other famous games in E3 convention this year did not have more awards. The reasons are really simple: only titles that could be played at E3 convention can be counted into the award list. We did not have much playable game at E3 2019 convention, so titles that did not let the fans play like Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 were not in the award list by default.

On Monday we speculated that Google was going to announce a new game streaming platform at GDC that’d be available on a wide variety of devices, and it seems we were right.

Google Stadia is a brand new platform whose aim is to bring a high-quality gaming experience to everyone regardless of what devices they own. It is powered by Google’s worldwide data centers will be accessible on desktops, laptops, phones, tablets, TVs, and more. Stadia will even be compatible with YouTube, which allows users to instantly access whatever games they see straight from the Data Center. The idea sounds wonderful on paper, but we’ll have to see whether it delivers in practice. For now, an announcement trailer for Stadia is available, you can check it out below:

Google claims that Stadia is capable of streaming games in 4K resolution and 60 fps. Majd Bakar, Vice President of Google’s Project Stream, also said that the platform could achieve up to 120 fps and 8k resolution in the future. In a live demonstration of how Stadia works, Bakar had a person play Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on a Chromebook, then switch to a phone, a PC, and then a TV. After each switch, the player could immediately continue from when the game was left off in the previous device. The upcoming Doom Eternal – a sequel to the 2016 FPS game DOOM – will reportedly be playable on Stadia as well, and no doubt it is just one title out of many that’ll support this platform.

Google will also release a new hardware to support its streaming platform: the Stadia Controller. It looks something like a hybrid between a PS4 and an Xbox One controller, with 2 analog sticks, a D-pad, 4 action buttons on the front, and triggers on the shoulders. This controller connects directly to Google’s servers through wi-fi so as to minimize input lag. Additionally, there is a “share” button that allows users to record their gameplay footage and share it with others on Youtube.

Stadia is expected to launch later this year, although no price tag has been specified yet.
