Sensor Tower has released the latest statistics regarding the Mobile Market in 2020, in which India tops the chart of countries with the most downloads.]]>

The Indian Mobile Gaming Industry is heading towards a bright future. Sensor Tower has released its last report of 2020, revealing that India has the most number of mobile game downloads (around 9.3 Billion) this year. This figure nearly doubles that of America, which finishes in second place.

India Dominate Top 5 Countries by Mobile Game Downloads in 2020

The exact statistics released in Sensor Tower's 2020 report are as follow:

India leads the chart with more than 4 billion downloads more than the second contender (the United States with 5.1 Billion). This may not come as a surprise to many, considering the massive number of mobile users in India. However, what's interesting is that the country does not show up among the top 5 grossing countries. Also, Garena Free Fire has officially become the most downloaded game of 2020.

Indian Mobile Gaming Industry in 2020

2020 has been an incredible year for the mobile gaming scene in India. The wide-spread global epidemic has kept billions in the safe of their home, thus, increasing the engagement with online entertainment. India experiences a major influx to its player base. However, the Esports scene does not perform up to par. After the ban on PUBG Mobile, the biggest Esports title in India, the growth pace of the entire gaming industry has been put to a halt.

But, it also offers other games the opportunity to thrive. BR titles like Garena Free Fire quickly took up the lead, becoming the most popular game in the country. The game is making its way towards building a solid and professional mobile gaming industry in India. Supercell’s Clash Of Clans and Brawl Stars are also relevant to Indian competitive gaming. And let's hope things get even better in the year of 2021!

In the meantime, an exclusive version of PUBG Mobile for India is still in the pipeline, promising to strike up the number of downloads in this country once again. ]]>

India is seen as a significantly beneficial target for future investment, at least when it comes to the esports industry. Recent stats surrounding this field definitely speak for it, and recently, it has added up with India’s achievement of taking the lead for most game downloads in the world.

India Mobile Esports
India is the most promising land for the esports industry at the moment.

Specifically, PUBG Mobile, Pokemon GO, and the recent emerging game Among Us, all have reached massive numbers of downloads from Indian players.

A report from Sensor Tower has revealed that the most downloaded game position belongs to Among Us from Innersloth since October this year. India stood at the top with 15% of the total downloads, while the USA ranked 2nd with 12%.

Another popular battle royale game among the Indian gamer community is Garena Free Fire, which also became the most downloaded game of 2020 in India for the first nine months, mostly thanks to the country’s ban for PUBG Mobile.

India Mobile Esports 2
PUBG Mobile has been no longer the most played game across the country, but it's set to make a comeback in the near future.

About PUBG Mobile, the good news is that the game is permitted to appear in the Indian game markets in near future and promises to strike up the number of downloads in this country once again.

According to data collected by Sensor Tower, up to now, India already took over the 1st position with a total download percentage of 17%, followed by the USA finishing as the runner-up 10% and Brazil standing at the 3rd spot with 8%.

India Mobile Esports 3
India already took over the 1st position with a total download percentage of 17%.

Those numbers definitely show India’s potential in the gaming industry and perhaps they are likely to contribute to changing investors’ attitude towards the game market in India.

As announced in a post on Team Vitality’s Instagram account, the France-based professional esports team is going to set up its very first Indian team. This somehow reflects the new movement from the compromise about the expansion to India between the team’s Chief Marketing Officer, Florent Gutierrez, and the famous YouTuber of the country, Rawknee, in December 2019.

Team Vitality 2
The France-based professional esports team is going to set up its very first Indian team.

The team members haven’t been disclosed yet, but they will be announced soon, according to several reliable sources. Vitality is absolutely not the first international organization to expand its impact on India. Some precedent organizations such as Fnatic, TSM, Noblegg, and Nova Esports have stepped their feet on the country right after the rapid growth of PUBG Mobile

The popularity can be easily seen in the viewership on PUBG Mobile World League East’s Hindi stream which reached more than 400,000 viewers.

Team Vitality 5
The esports landscape in India is springing up in bounds and leaps.

However, the game was banned a few weeks ago by the Indian government, based on Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Predicted by professional players and influencers whose names are respectively Kronten and Scout, the relaunch of the game will be announced in the time frame of December/ January under the expectation of many gamers.

Founded by Fabien Devide and Nicolas Maurer in August 2013, Team Vitality is the leading esports club in France with enthusiastic participation in CS GO, F1, FIFA, Fortnite Battle Royale, Hearthstone, League of Legends, PUBG, Rainbow Six Seige, Rocket League, and Street Fighter 5.

In case you're a long-time fan of "Arena of Valor", such a piece of bad news will let you down for a little while.]]>

It’s been so long since Indian mobile gamers could not approach their favorites like PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, or Arena of Valor due to the government ban on hundreds of Chinese apps. They’re all accused of violating user privacy and national cyber laws amid the ongoing geopolitical dispute between India and China, thus posing potential threats over the sovereignty and integrity of India.

Arena Of Valor India
It’s been so long since Indian mobile gamers could not approach their favorites like PUBG Mobile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, or Arena of Valor.

In an attempt to resolve the current situation, the publishers of these games are reportedly working with the Indian government. Tencent Games, the owner of popular battle royale games PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, said in recent press releases that they would comply with both Indian laws and authorities to show the transparency of its business in the country. That said, PUBG Mobile may come back to India through Reliance Jio as PUBG Corp. is rumored to give the distribution right of PUBG Mobile to the Indian telco.

Statement By Arena of Valor

Arena of Valor released the following statement today:

Dear Indian players,

Pursuant to the interim order from the Indian government, we are unable to operate Arena of Valor in India anymore.

User privacy and data security are our top priority. All game data, including any personal information, will be deleted within 30 days, except where we have a legal obligation to retain that data, or it is retained to preserve any legal rights.

You fought your way through the combat, drew first blood and carried your team. We'll always remember your Legendary performance in the arena!

Thank you. Farewell, for now.

- Arena of Valor Team

In the meantime, Arena of Valor is slowly shutting down its operations across the country. For your information, Arena of Valor once said in April that the Indian server would be halted anytime soon and as a result, they instead launched a new server for the South Asia region. In case you're a long-time fan of "Arena of Valor", such a piece of bad news will let you down for a little while, beyond doubt.

Famous Indian journalist Faye D’Souza, in collaboration with Animesh ‘Thug’ Agarwal from 8bit Gaming alongside economist Mohan Guruswamy, recently put the future of PUBG Mobile on the table after the popular battle royale game got banned in India.

The discussion also saw the participation of other well-known personalities like law expert Dr. Pavan Duggal and Rishi Alwani, a former writer at NDTV Gadgets 360. For both PUBG Mobile players and mobile game enthusiasts across the country, here’re four key takeaways from the online conference that you may want to know.

1. These days, eSports is a really, really big business

As per a study from Business Insider, PUBG players made around Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 45,000 in India. 8bit Thug even estimated higher numbers due to the booming growth of the game. While all prize pools for professional tournaments are said to reach $8 million (Rs. 58.5 crores), the highest-paid players could earn a whopping $4000-$5000 per month (approximately Rs. 3-3.5 lakh).

2. The move of Indian government has cast a shadow over Chinese mobile developers

The border clash between India and China has led to 59 Chinese apps being banned in June and now, the additional number of banned app goes up to 118, including PUBG Mobile, PUBG Mobile Lite, Arena of Valor, etc. It looks like a clear message to the Chinese officials: If you keep aggressive at the disputed territories, your businesses in India will have to pay the price. In fact, Tencent Games was reported to lose $34 billion in market value since then, now the Chinese tech giant is trying to prove its compliance with Indian authorities and policies.

3. About FAU-G

Just 24 hours after the ban, a desi version of PUBG Mobile called FAU-G was announced and this raised a bunch of doubts from players about the true intention behind the government orders. However, the development of such a game needs enough time before it can make a way into the market, according to Rishi Alwani.

FAU-G is widely considered as a desi version of PUBG Mobile.

4. Will Indian developers have AAA games?

PM Narendra Modi and several high-profile politicians already emphasized the importance of ‘made in India’ video games, considering that they should take Indian culture and folk tales as a source of content for their products. During this time, we all expect quality games from Indian developers to come soon.

Tencent Games are doing its very best to show the business transparency of PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in India.]]>

On September 2, the Indian government already spoke out that they would be putting a ban on 118 Chinese apps available in the country due to privacy and security concerns. Indian gamers may find it very unhappy as their favorite game title such as PUBG Mobile or Arena of Valor are also included in the list. In fact, the move appears to be the consequence of the geopolitical dispute between India and China, which has taken place for months.

India Pubg Mobile 4
The move appears to be the consequence of the geopolitical dispute between India and China, which has taken place for months.

Previously, Indian authorities started to ban 59 apps right after the border clash at Galway Valley on June 15. Indian Army continued lengthening the list with an additional number of 89 apps, including popular games like Clash of Kings and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and ordered the staff to have them uninstalled on their phones. However, PUBG Mobile was only kept under scrutiny at that time and it’s evident that most players were not ready to give up on the game and still expected it to keep living in India.

The official statement from the government of India actually talks a bunch of reports and complaints from different sources and emphasizes the importance of the ban amid the misuse of such mobile apps. They’re accused of stealing and transmitting data to overseas servers outside India.

Speaking of the PUBG Mobile case, this Tencent-backed game hasn’t been caught getting involved in any misdoings directly. It’s understandable why the Chinese company even claims that user data has not been exposed – PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite are still available on Google Play Store and App Store in other countries and they must meet strict security requirements on these reliable platforms. What’s more, the games are operated through AWS servers in India and this obviously complies with the country’s data privacy laws.

India Pubg Mobile 2
Tencent Games meanwhile are doing its best to show the transparency of its business.

As far as we’re concerned, the size of the player base in India really makes sense. Tencent Games meanwhile are doing its best to show the transparency of its business. We all expect PUBG Mobile to revitalize in the country in the nearest future.

"We are looking forward to engaging with the Indian authorities to clarify their long established policy and action in protecting user data in hoped to ensure the continued availability of their products in the India."

COD Mobile was developed and published by Activision, and Activision is a US-based video game company in California. No 'China' detected!]]>

The latest ban on 118 Chinese apps, including PUBG Mobile, has been implemented by the Indian government. This actually made the gaming industry of the country, especially our favorite battle royale game, suffer from a shower of shock and disappointment. Nevertheless, one of the most formidable opponents of PUBG Mobile - Call of Duty Mobile - is not affected by the ban at all - at least until this moment.

China Ban
Will the Indian government put a ban on Call of Duty Mobile?

However, fans of COD Mobile still have a ton of reasons to worry about. If any link of the game referred to China, it can be prohibited with no hesitation. Therefore, to shed light on the current nerve of Indian COD Mobile fans, the origin of the game will be clearly clarified in this article.

Where does Call of Duty Mobile come from?

Being part of the Call of Duty franchise, COD Mobile was developed and published by Activision for Android and iOS. In detail, Activision is a US-based video game company in Santa Monica, California.

China 3
COD Mobile was developed and published by Activision, and Activision is a US-based video game company in Santa Monica, California.

But actually, the mobile version of Call of Duty was not developed by Activision itself. Instead, it was transferred to TiMi Studios - a subsidiary that belongs to Tencent Holdings, which is also a famous Chinese game publishing company of PUBG Mobile.

So COD Mobile is a Chinese app, isn’t it?

The answer is definitely "No". Although COD Mobile was developed by TiMi Studios, it was not originated and created in China. The Indian government only banned some Chinese apps with the aim of protecting its citizens’ private data.

China 4
The answer is definitely "No".

As COD is officially published and controlled by Activision that is located in the US, as well as Garena, based in Singapore, there is no reason for the privacy concern over COD Mobile.

While the origin of Free Fire still stays vague, here’s all you need to know about your favorite game.]]>

For those who love diving into mobile games, Free Fire is no longer something unfamiliar when it comes to the survival genre. The game has already gone a long way to be one of the most popular games in India, and as it turns out, gamers are always impressed by a series of intriguing challenges and incredible updates from the game publisher – Garena.

However, since the political tension between India and China started to escalate due to a recent border incident at the Line of Actual Control (LAC), many players started to cast doubt over questions like whether Free Fire is a Chinese app, and if true, will it be banned in India?

Garena Free Fire 1
While the origin of Free Fire still stays vague, here’s all you need to know about your favorite game.

In a nutshell, the Indian Home Ministry has set up a blacklist that comprises of 59 Chinese apps as they are accused of violating the security, safety, and privacy of user data. It’s considered a piece of bad news for fans of PUBG Mobile because this well-known game title is nothing but a Chinese app itself. While the origin of Free Fire still stays vague, here’s all you need to know about your favorite game.

Free Fire – Is it a Chinese app?

Honestly speaking, Garena Free Fire is a product from the Singapore-based company Sea Ltd, not a Chinese app. Despite the fact that Forrest Li – CEO of Garena and Sea Ltd – was born in mainland China, this man immigrated to Singapore, thus becoming a Singaporean citizen and not being a Chinese any longer.

Speaking of Garena, this is a renowned name in the gaming industry with a slew of favorable games, such as League of Legends, FIFA Online 3 & 4, Blade & Soul, etc. The company has operated its product line worldwide, but it mainly focuses on Asian markets like South East Asia and India. All these games hold no tie to China because they were developed and published in Singapore, the company's headquarters. In the case of Free Fire, Garena has teamed up with game developers from 111Dots Studio in Vietnam to establish the game from the ground up.

As such, it's obvious that Free Fire doesn't come packed with any Chinese factors, so the long and short of this story is that Free Fire appears to be a Singaporean app and therefore, it’ll not be banned anytime soon.

Garena Free Fire Forrest Li
Garena CEO Forrest Li immigrated to Singapore, thus becoming a Singaporean citizen and not being a Chinese any longer.

Garena Free Fire has been made available to various devices, including not only Android-based and iOS-based handsets but also PCs and PlayStation consoles. What’s more, it has counted a staggering number of people as daily players when reaching a total of more than 500 million downloads across the globe.

Garena Free Fire 2
Free Fire is obviously the best alternative to PUBG Mobile at present.

If you’re a newcomer to this game, the game will guide you through the typical survival gameplay but more interestingly, you’ll be able to see an awesome user interface and high-quality graphics. Garena Free Fire is obviously the best alternative to PUBG Mobile at present, and GuruGamer highly recommend you to give it a try as soon as possible!

While the wedding was taking place, there were some little glitches such as some of the family members accidentally muted their microphone or camera was covered up by pets. However, the wedding showed lots of happiness and fun.]]>

Both groom and bride, along with their guests, organized a lavish wedding on the Internet and they managed to attract thousands of followers.

India is famous for luxury weddings that often last many days. However, due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Sushen Dang and Keerti Narang decided to change the traditional ceremony. They just chose a beautiful day and held their dream wedding on the Internet.

Online Wedding
Love in the time of Coronavirus.

The wedding took place on April 19. And as said by groom Dang, a 26-year-old analyst,

"We never imagined that even our online wedding would be so grand. A hundred guests joined in our celebration on the app. We live-streamed the ceremony on Facebook which was watched by another 16,000 people."

Dang dressed up in traditional sherwani kurta and a turban on his special event. He surfed the Internet from Mumbai, a city alongside the Arabian Sea while bride Narang in a red dress logged on from Bareilly in the Uttar Pradesh state that is adjacent to Nepal.

The priest conducted a chain of wedding rites while he was sitting next to a ritual fire at his house in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Guests of both Sushen Dang and Keerti Narang joined from Delhi, Gurgaon, and Bangalore, the tech hub in the south of India.

Priest Wedding
All of the wedding participants, from the bride, groom, to guests and priests join the wedding via a video-conferencing app.

While the wedding was taking place, there were some little glitches such as some of the family members accidentally muted their microphone or camera was covered up by pets. However, the wedding showed lots of happiness and fun, and the bride, groom, and their relatives performed Bollywood-style dances.

This wedding attracted about 260,000 views on the Internet, and the new couple suddenly felt as real celebrities.

Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian government has issued a lockdown order as the wedding season is coming. In Rajasthan, up to 23,000 weddings were canceled on April 26 – the day of the springtime festival, Akshaya Tritiya.

There are about 10 million weddings per year in the nation with 1.3 billion people. The price of the wedding industry in India is estimated at $40-50 billion. Like many other countries, this nation has had a lot of difficulties due to COVID-19. Event organizers, restaurants, and design companies are ones of the most-impacted businesses.

According to Adhish Zaveri,

“We thought, ‘Why don’t we be the flag-bearers and drive weddings online? A wedding is probably the most important day of somebody’s life. And we thought we have to make it as special and close to a real wedding as possible.”

Adhish Zaveri now works as a marketing director of Shaadi.com, a matrimonial website that held the wedding for Dang and Narang.

Online weddings have become a new hot trend in India during the lockdown. A couple in Uttar Pradesh got marriage in the police office when all of the conventional places including temples, hotels, and banquet halls were closed.

Groom Online Wedding
Let's dance in the Bollywood style.

In a bid to protect themselves from the COVID-19, in Madhya Pradesh, a couple worn masks and attached flowers to bamboo sticks to exchange garlands – an important ritual in Indians’ weddings.

Zaveri said online weddings with the cheaper expenses would probably become a good choice for couples who don’t know when the pandemic will end. As per Dang and Narang, this couple spent $1,300 on the ceremony services, and as further said by Zaveri, his company has organized up to 12 similar weddings.

Accordingly, sari-draping experts and make-up artists give support to brides. A singer takes on stirring the air up. And all guests are sent an ID and password to avoid strangers to invade illegally.

Kirti Agrawal got married to Avinash Singh Bagri on April 14 on the balcony of their relatives’ house while their family and friends watched on a video-conferencing application.

Sushen Dang Wedding
The wedding with about 100 guests and thousands of followers.

In an interview with AFP, Agrawal said,

“Their (groom’s) family had planned a guest list of 8,000 to 10,000. I didn’t say that I am not a fan of big, fat weddings. But when I heard about the wedding-from-home idea, I was very happy.”

The Indian government has issued a severe lockdown from March 25 to control the COVID-19 spread. People are ordered to stay at home, stop using all public transports, railway, and air services. Rayne Esports (previously known as GERayne) is the first all-female pro team of CS:GO in India, and they are recruiting new player for upcoming tournaments.]]>

We all know that gaming and esports in our country are not particularly welcomed. For parents and adults in general, video games are just a pointless and extremely unhealthy way to entertain yourself. That is why for them, competitive gaming and esports tournaments are dangerous things, so most of the time they will prevent their children from participating in those events. But luckily, we have Global Esports. From just a project about pets at the beginning, Rushindra Sinha and Mohit Israney have successfully turned their project into the biggest esports organization in India – Global Esports.

Global Esports Interview
Rushindra Sinha (left) and Mohit Israney (right)

These two men have been creating chances of becoming a real pro gamer for so many people. Moreover, those chances are not for boys and men only. Global Esports has founded the first all-female CS:GO pro team. Previously known as GERayne, this all-female CS:GO pro team has just changed its name into Rayne Esports, and it has just had created its own Facebook page. The page is still lack of likes and followers, so if you want to support the girls, you know what to do.

Rayne Esports just created its fanpage on Facebook, and after uploading the avatar and cover photos, the first post of the team is to recruit a new female player for the team. So, if any girls can join them, be confident and send messages to the Facebook page of Rayne Esports. They will reply shortly.

The first post on the Facebook page of Rayne Esports also introduces the other 4 members of the team, as well as the coach of the team. Previously in 2019, our girls have won second place in Legion of Valkyries, a CS:GO tournament hosted by Lenovo. The line-up that won the second place of Rayne Esports has not been changed much, only Zarin Nawar (a player from Thailand) left. That is why Rayne Esports is not looking for their fifth female player.

Fnatic has announced that it is bringing in Nimish Raut, a former employee at renowned company Riot Games, to lead its Indian division.]]>

UK-based esports organization Fnatic is continuing its venture into the Indian market, recruiting former Riot Games employee Nimish Raut as the leader of its branch in the country.

According to Raut’s profile on LinkedIn, he has been at this role since December 2019. Before that, he was Senior Manager for Esports in Southeast Asia and Greater China for Riot Games.

Former Riot Games employee Nimish Raut is now the leader of Fnatic's Indian division

Fnatic co-owner and Chief Gaming Officer Patrik “Carn” Sättermon shared that he’s “very pleased” to have Raut join the team. They already met a few years ago and Sättermon said it’s “exciting” that Raut is now leading Fnatic’s expansion in India. He also mentioned that the organization aims to become an active player in pushing the growth of the esports ecosystem in the country.

Fnatic first began to capitalize on the esports scene of India back in October last year, when it acquired a local PUBG Mobile team. Now, Raut’s task will be to make the organization’s presence expand as it sets up training facilities such as a gaming house.

Speaking to AFK Gaming, Raut stated that he’s “extremely excited” about this opportunity. His previous job at Riot Games gave him a close understanding of how popular Fnatic is to fans around the world and how the team works. He also mentioned that the organization has big plans for India in the future, starting with opening a full-fledged facility in the country and not just a bootcamp.

Furthermore, Raut also wants to bring in the required professionalism while at the same time establishing partnerships with various brands to find ways for them to invest in the ecosystem.

India is a major area of interest for global organizations that are looking for opportunities to expand. With a local lead like Raut, who has lots of experience in the field, Fnatic will no doubt stand a great chance to build momentum in the market. Alongside Fnatic, Team Vitality is also jumping into the fray.

Many pro-Indian players GuruGamer spoke to believed that if laws are established by the Indian government, it will be for the betterment of Indian esports.]]>

When India is becoming a hotspot for the gaming industry, Esports is gaining steady momentum. Experts believe that there will be a time where physical sports and Esports will be considered at par. This also calls for anti-doping laws for Esports. ESL is the only premiere tournament operator which spends $40,000 a year for drug tests on professional players. It is likely that India will establish anti-doping laws designed for esports.

Esl One Hamburg 03
ESL has come to Mumbai earlier this year in April

Kory Friesen, a professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player had admitted that his entire team of Cloud9 had taken psychostimulant Adderall during a major Electronic Sports League. This drug helps to improve the reaction and cognition of a player.

It is also considered to boost strength and is taken by active athletes. Adderall and Ritalin come under the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) type of drug. But the anti-doping law which is adhered to by Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) does not make it mandatory for professional players to undergo regular tests like athletes.

Psy

Delhi resident Simar Sethi,21 aka PSY a professional CS:GO player and former in-game leader of Entity Gaming, said, "Such cases have been reported abroad. Indian players are at a very naive stage to indulge in such activities. Moreover, I personally know almost all Indian professional CS:GO players and I am sure that none of them indulge in doping. Our country is growing at a fast pace for professional esports. India is ready to host more international tournaments. Anti-doping laws are important and if it gets established it will be a positive step for Indian esports."

Dsc 2910

Akshat Rathee, founder and Managing Director of NODWIN Gaming revealed that he has not encountered any doping-related offenses to date. He said, "NODWIN Gaming is an active member of the Esports Integrity Commission. We are in compliance with ESIC's Anti-doping Code.

The code specifies a long list of offenses and the procedures of investigating to be followed by a strict disciplinary action which we will have to follow if we come across any such cases. Esports players are accused of doping to particularly stay calm and focused in high-pressure situations. The drug helps to improve cognition, it completely takes out fatigue, and enhances the users' reactions."
